Dr Ian Collins: Medicinal Chemistry Team Two
Professor Keith Jones: Medicinal Chemistry Team Three
Dr Swen Hoelder: Medicinal Chemistry Team Four
Professor Caroline Springer: Gene & Oncogene Targeting Team
The four Medicinal Chemistry Teams, together with chemists in the Gene & Oncogene Targeting Team, aim to design and synthesise novel chemical compounds with biological and physical properties that meet the stringent requirements of clinical drug candidates. The Teams provide synthetic and medicinal chemistry expertise to a wide range of small-molecule drug discovery projects in the Centre. We collaborate with colleagues at the ICR to use X-ray crystallography of potential drug molecules bound to their protein targets to guide our design of improved molecules for synthesis, for example in the discovery of inhibitors of kinase and ATPase enzymes involved in the development of cancer. We are also interested in the rational design and synthesis of new compound libraries for high throughput screening against emerging drug targets, where our aim is to increase the number and quality of hits suitable as starting points for drug discovery.
